All of us, no matter whether we have anxiety or not, go through times where we cannot sleep. This is entirely natural. You probably don’t know why you cannot sleep, but at least you can accept and deal with it.
When you’re suffering from sleeplessness, it is so important that you give in to the fact that you cannot sleep. Give in to what might happen during the night and you’ll be more relaxed. When you are unable to sleep, after a while you might become frustrated and angry that you can’t get the rest that you need. It’s this frustration and anger that keep you awake. Stop letting your sleeplessness cause you anxiety. See it for what it is and move on.
One of the best anxiety remedies over sleeping is to get a good work out in the evening. Usually, working out while you’re outside is the best bet, because the combination of fresh air and physical exhaustion tend to have a relaxing effect that will allow you to ignore your anxious thoughts and fall asleep more easily. When you add this to the fact that you are going to just accept the fact that you cannot sleep and you’ll find that you’re quickly snoozing away. Don’t consume alcohol or caffeine before bed and if you smoke, try not to for several hours before you go to bed in order to get the most restful sleep possible. If your mind won’t rest so that you can get some sleep, keep a journal by your bed and sit up to write how you’re feeling in it. Restless, worried? Put it in your journal. This will have a calming effect that can help you to relax.
In fact, you should write all your worries in your journal when you can’t sleep, too. If you are worried that you need to be well rested for a big day tomorrow, put that in your journal. Write down all your worries until you get bored. By writing like this, you are making your mind to wind down and go to sleep. It’s not about what you write, but the fact that you do write, because you are helping your mind to release it’s tensions so it can relax and go to sleep.
When you worry, your mind feels that it’s important to take a good look at all your worries and they need urgent attention. So, rather than letting you sleep, if you don’t take the time to look at what you worry about and acknowledge that you are feeling worried, your mind will keep you up all night. When you get more and more worked up by the worries, your body becomes stimulated and it gets even harder to sleep. By writing down all that you worry about, you are finding one of the cures for anxiety, so that your mind can relax and rest.
